5 BIPOC Literary Events for 2021

Attending writing-related activities is one of many ways to get better at the craft. It allows you to get input on the craft from fellow writers, and of course, get acquainted with the industry and its community even more.

With that said, here are some writing-related events specifically for BIPOC writers to look forward to this year!

 

Bronx Book Festival (June 11-13, 2021)

The Bronx Books FestivalHappening on June 11 to 13 this year, the Bronx Book Festival aims to “promote literacy and foster a love of reading among children, teens, and adults,” according to its website.

PAGE TURNER: The 2021 Publishing Conference (June 26, 2021)

PAGE TURNER is one of the many events held by the Asian-American Writers’ Workshop, which is focused on developing and disseminating the works of Asian Americans.

16th National Black Writers Conference 

Center for Black LiteratureThe Center for Black Literature, which annually holds the National Black Writers Conference, has announced its theme for its 16th edition in 2022: “The Beautiful Struggle: Black Writers Lighting the Way.”

In line with this, it said it is looking for writing submissions anchored on the theme for the fall/winter 2021 issue of its Killens Review of Arts & Letters.

Publishing in Color Fall 2021 Online Conference (Sept. 13-17, 2021)

According to its website, Publishing in Color is geared particularly to helping BIPOC writers learn how to market their work and get published.

Publishing in Color will be holding its Fall 2021 Online Conference from September 13 to 17, 2021. Meanwhile, they also have other events slated in June and November. Visit this for more information and to register.

 

FIYAHCON 2021 – For BIPOC + Speculative Fiction (September 16-19, 2021)

FIYAHCONAccording to its website, FIYAHCON is a “virtual convention centering the perspectives and celebrating the contributions of BIPOC in speculative fiction.”
